NA PRO. 3 DETAIL NARRATIVE

Channel: Moving image.
Concept: showing toys that teach inherent, fundamental skills to children and relating to the real world.

.What I learned by way of project objectives:
The objectives that I used were (1) objects associated with the topic (2) using the visual language.
For the sake of clarity and simplicity, it is important to think through the narrative.

.What I learned by exclusively using one particular communication channel:
The channel I chose was moving image. The real challenge of the project was using only one channel. There were times when I would catch myself trying to clarify the message of the narrative by using text. When I couldn't do that, I had to find new and different ways of clarifying things by simply using the imagery. That's where I had to rack my brains and think through thoroughly about how my narrative was constructed and how I could fine tune it even more so that the concept would be more relevant.

.How I constructed the story by utilizing what I know about narrative, and what did I learned from that process:
The narrative was intended to be constructed with a simple and precise story line. Being forced to use only one channel dictated how I was to construct the narrative. I learned to be more concise with the message, and to use simple imagery and and movement that could only be seen in a certain way – thus avoiding confusion by including other possible connotations. That was the intention.

  1. I understand your use of the juxtapositions between the toys and their more "real life" counterparts, and could have guessed that this was some sort of message about toys that develop fundamental skills for children to use later in life. It looks like it is off to a great start in that sense, but that there could be more examples, more elaboration.
Image without a text explanation can be toughy to work through, but the message here is relatively clear. Seems like you had trouble nailing down a good way to communicate it though; it would have been nice to see some additional flare to the animation besides a plain background.
Nonetheless! :) Seems like you had a interesting way of showing the correlation between the toys and their future implications, it's nice to see you adding more to your brand besides the statement that it's just a bunch of "well made, sturdy toys."
If you ever had time, I would love to see additional material added to your narrative here.

  2. I agree with Kelsey I do have the feeling as if the toys are suppose to implied that toys develop the fundamentals the building blocks for modern and later in life by the use of a toy of the train and a modern train as seen in "real life". I like how the narration starts with some basic addition 3+7 =10 yet I wonder about the 9 and then the building? I feel that to make more emphasizes to the building block to a modern. By having car by having the wood car toy and then a modern car similar to the juxtaposition of the train. I also question the size of the hammer and how it takes out of the frame. I don't know what the message is to imply some kind of destruction or negative term, by being a hammer toy there is really no harm . I just wonder his appearance on stage. I will like to see more of a city being formed since there is just one building, one train and a car. I feel that by doing so it implies more of the message that toys are just the beginning or building blocks to creativity. I really enjoy the rendering style it brings the child like quality.
